Wow, I really need to start watching/reading the news more. I only just found out, 5 1/2 years late, that Jim died. He used to live down the road from me in Yokine, 25+ years ago. He actually lived next door to a school friend of mine, and that’s how I first met him. Always friendly and one of the nicest celebrities I have ever met. He even wrote a personal reference for me when I was applying for jobs. So devastated to hear of his passing. Just wish I had kept in contact with him after we moved out of the area. Belated sympathies to his family and friends.

It was very sad to read this website which referred to the passing of Errol Battersby whom I worked with at 5 KA in Adelaide. I didn't know him as Big Red, but I can understand how the name evolved. As for "Jim Beam" I can only ponder. RIP Errol. Jim Slade

Ken, Gary, Mouse, Murray and all
My father told me of Jim's passing a couple of weeks back and I've only just discovered this incredible website thanks to Lesley Bradford. It's wonderful that the big fella can be remembered in such a way and belatedly I add my condolences to those who were close to him. Jim was a damn fine fella, a superb radio talent and larger than life in every way. He was always very good to me as a young buck and I have very fond memories of the man who reminded me in the nicest possible sense of a Big Red version of Baloo from The Jungle Book!
RIP Jim.
